Naeem and Judy's wedding was a simple and elegant affair in Perth, Australia beautifully photographed by Samuel Goh. We love the pretty colour scheme, traditional Cambodian touches during their reception and how the bride's bouquet combined each of the flowers used in her bridesmaids' single flower bouquets - roses, tulips and hyacinths!
How did you meet?
“Naz and I met through mutual friends one night at a karaoke party. I remember we were sitting together and Naz came across as this really shy guy but eventually, he impressed me with his dancing skills and singing away to one of the Backstreet boys songs! It was hilarious because not only did this 'shy-guy' come out of his shell but he also brought out his real personality. We communicated on Facebook frequently and several months later, we finally exchanged our numbers and realised we had a lot more things in common. Funnily enough, fishing was one of our ideal hobbies during our weekends! From there, our love grew stronger. Naz has introduced me to an adventurous love story. Every weekend is different - whether it be driving along the coast in our 4WD, fishing 8 hours away from home or camping in the middle of no where, it's the common interests we've built along with our memories that we'll cherish forever!”
How did Naeem propose?
“We were heading down south with my family to Albany (4hrs away from Perth) and the night before, Naz told me that he wanted to wake up early the next day to take photos of the sunrise. I said I was all up for it as we both loved watching the sunrise and sunset back at home. That morning, we all got up ready to head out to explore but I could feel that Naz was getting nervous and wanted my family to head to the local jetty quite anxiously. We all couldn't understand what all the fuss was all about but we headed to the local jetty anyway. It was then that Naz and I were ahead of everyone and we walked towards the end of the jetty, he quietly mentioned that he had to change the lens of his camera. He went down on one knee and and grabbed the 'little box' out of his bag and looked directly at me with the box wide open and the ring inside. My eyes lit up and tears rolled down my face as it was the perfect moment, a moment which changed my life forever.”
What was the theme and colour palette of your wedding?
“The theme colours for our wedding were lilac and white. The centerpiece flowers were purple and white with a mix of green leaves. Our lilac chair sashes were purchased online and we were lucky enough that the venue had a vibrant purple haze in the room, which fitted perfectly with the theme of the colours. I wanted the venue to look simple, yet elegant at the same time.
Tell us about some of the other unique and personal touches to your wedding?
"We also added a hint of Cambodian traditional flavour, so while our guests arrived, we wore traditional Cambodian clothing and we distributed the favours to each guest. Wearing the traditional clothing meant a lot to our families as we knew how much it reminded them of ‘home’ in Cambodia.
My wedding favours were DIY, very simple - EBAY became my bestfriend! Everything from the clear boxes, ribbons and purple heart chocolates were purchased online. It was fun making these as it got my creative side going and for once, got all the stress out of the way from all the planning.”
Do you have any tips or wedding advice for other brides and grooms-to-be?
“Don’t get too caught up with ‘perfection’. This event is an expression of yourselves, but it's not all you'll ever be. It's just the beginning! In fact, some of the best moments were ones we didn't plan for at all, ensure your photographer captures every moment because in the end, you’ll look back and realise that ‘everything happens for a reason!’ This is the moment to embrace the unexpected, to reflect and reminisce with each other. Take a breather, you're in this together, now and for the future.”
Congratulations on your marriage Naeem and Judy! May it be every bit as beautiful as your wedding!
