Keeping any secret from your besties is never easy, so we can totally understand why it was tough for bride-to-be, Sarah, to keep her bridesmaid proposal a complete surprise. Seeing the astonished looks on her best friends’ faces when she presented them with clear ring boxes, each packed with a nostalgic choice of gift, a Lego ring (inspired by her adorable Polly Pocket marriage proposal in New York City), and a personalised handwritten card as she asked, “Will you be my bridesmaid?” at PS. Café One Fullerton with Kenneth from Freshfromkenneth to capture it all, made the secrecy absolutely worth it!
What inspired your proposal?
“I started planning for the surprise proposal in August as one of my bridesmaids is based in Australia. I wanted to set something up early as not every one of my best friends knew each other in person and I wanted for them to start getting to know each other better before the big day. I also wanted to formally ask them in a "proposal" format as they're all special to me, and they deserved a special surprise.
I started researching proposal gifts and was certain that I wanted to propose with a ring. Since I have a soft spot for childhood toys (going back to the Polly Pocket proposal), I thought I'd get inspired by my next favourite toy - Lego. By sheer luck, I found DIY Lego rings on Etsy and that was it! I managed to settle the rings, got clear ring boxes off Lazada and was incredibly relieved that the pieces fit perfectly when I finally received them and put them together.
Also, I'm a little old school, so nothing's complete without a handwritten card/letter. I found another Etsy seller who customizes bridesmaids cards and I'm so happy how it all came together. The colours of the dresses on the cards were selected by my bridesmaids when I randomly gave them a colour palette to choose from! They all thought I was researching for the actual bridesmaids dress.” ~ Sarah
Tell us more about the proposal!
“After months of keeping the proposal a secret (possibly the toughest secret I have had to keep, given that these girls are always the ones I go to whenever I have something exciting to share!), the proposal day finally arrived. I was so nervous but I was lucky to have some support from the staff at PS. Cafe One Fullerton (who kindly secured a corner table for the surprise at no minimum cost) and Kenneth (from Freshfromkenneth), who helped facilitate the surprise. The girls were genuinely shocked and the first thing they said was, "What's going on? Are you proposing to us!" - it was hilarious!
My bridesmaids were most definitely surprised - the looks on their faces were priceless. I’m so happy that at that moment, I created a bond between us. They were all from different parts of my life and it felt so surreal bringing them together.” ~Sarah
