We love coming across wonderful wedding vendors and even more so when they're go-getting women! The bride, Jacelyn, and the photographer for her wedding, Jacqueline, are not only friends but business partners as well. They both co-own PREP, a blowout only hair salon at Mandarin Gallery.
But we digress! We are so happy to share this couple's lovely story with you today which includes an absolutely charming proposal (involving a ukelele!), cuddly retriever and plenty of wedding gorgeousness to keep you smiling all day!
"The theme for the party at The White Rabbit was “smart, bright and colourful”! The bridesmaids were in yellow, coral and nude dresses, and the groomsmen’s bowties were in various colourful checkered patterns." ~ Jacelyn
“Our golden retriever Max is a huge part of our lives, and we knew the day wouldn’t be complete if we couldn’t share the joy and celebrations with him. So we were overjoyed to have Max play an important role in the solemnization ceremony – watching Max happily trot down the aisle brought tears to my eyes and made us so proud!” ~ Jacelyn
"The W Hotel ballroom is quite whimsical so we wanted to keep the colour palette simple so as not to clash with the décor of the ballroom." ~ Jacelyn
Andrew and Jacelyn met while they were both working at Merrill Lynch, in the same team no less! Andrew prepared a very romantic surprise proposal for Jacelyn while they were on holiday in Hong Kong.
“We had just arrived in Hong Kong and checked into our hotel. It was past midnight, and I was in the bathroom getting ready for bed. As I stepped out of the bathroom, I saw Andrew standing in the room with a ukulele, and he told me to sit down in front of a table with a big black book because he wanted to thank me. Knowing how much he loved to order room service on holiday, I just thought the book was a room service menu, till I flipped it open and saw that it was a beautiful book of photos that were taken from our travels over the past 4 years. Not suspecting that it was a proposal at all, I thought ‘Wow this is a really nice way to thank me for doing all the planning for this holiday!’
Then Andrew started playing the ukulele and singing a song that he wrote, which was about all the holidays we had gone on and places we had travelled to. I was overwhelmed – just a little bit of holiday planning and I get such a nice thank you? It wasn’t until he hit the chorus “Don’t you see it’s more fun when we’re together? So won’t you spend the rest of your life with me?” that it suddenly hit me that this was it! He was proposing to me! I immediately burst into happy tears and as he knelt down with the ring box in hand, I couldn’t think of a more perfect proposal.” ~ Jacelyn
Being serenaded by the one you love? We couldn’t imagine a sweeter proposal either!
Andrew and Jacelyn held their solemnisation and exchange of wedding vows at The White Rabbit, followed by a dinner party for their closet friends and family at W Hotel.
“The décor at The White Rabbit was kept cheery and rustic, with yellow and white flowers in assorted jars on the tables, large candles in glass columns lining the aisle, and hanging lanterns hung from the trees in the outdoor garden. We also had a simple backdrop made with pale yellow and green ribbons as a makeshift photobooth for our guests to take photos in front of.
For the W Hotel, we went with white flowers with yellow touches, but put them in glass vases of varying heights and positioned them in different clusters to add more drama.” ~ Jacelyn
In lieu of the regular hotel wedding favours, the couple decided to make a donation to Noah’s Ark Animal Welfare Charity on behalf of their guests.
“This Animal Sanctuary takes in abandoned animals and strays and provides a home for over 800 animals, including 500 dogs. Being animal lovers, we have been supporting Noah’s Ark for a few years and really believe in their cause and wanted to raise awareness amongst our guests on the good work that Noah’s Ark does. We put together a Thank You card for each of our guests to share Noah’s Ark’s story, and to show pictures and stories of the 10 dogs that were being taken care of thanks to this donation.” ~ Jacelyn
Their advice for couples planning their weddings?
“Have fun planning your wedding! Don’t get too caught up in all the minor details because the experience leading up to the special day is just as important as the event itself.
No matter how much you plan, just relax on the day itself and let others handle everything. The day will go by in a flash so savour every moment!
Planning a wedding will be stressful and frustrating at times, but always remember not to lose your temper at family or close friends, and most of all at your partner.
Plan your honeymoon a few months in advance, so that when your wedding draws near and you are busy with wedding preparation, you won’t have to worry about planning your honeymoon as well.”
Congratulations on your marriage Andrew and Jacelyn! May it be every bit as beautiful as your wedding!
