Chris popped the big question to Ally while they were holidaying on a sunny island in the Philippines. The adventurous duo then decided to begin their new journey as man and wife on the summit of Mount Roy in New Zealand.
Planned by Heliweddings and captured by Larsson Weddings, the couple arrived in style via helicopter and exchanged rings with only snow-capped peaks and the glistening blue waters of Lake Wanaka as their witnesses. Further proof that they were made for each other? They embarked on an adrenalin-pumping honeymoon road trip in South Island, New Zealand, which included activities like skydiving and paragliding.
Here are some photos from Chris and Ally’s proposal:

How did the two of you meet?
“We met at a friend’s wine tasting session three and a half years ago. It wasn’t love at first sight, so we did not try hard to impress initially, which allowed us to be comfortable and real around each other. Today, I am very proud to say that I can show Chris 100% of my flaws and he’s not going to doubt that I am the one for him.” ~ Ally
What was the proposal like?
“It was a series of surprises during our trip to Coron Island, the Philippines.
We were supposedly on our way to an island-hopping tour when our land transfer brought us to the airport’s departure gate. There I was greeted by Club Paradise Palawan’s staff, and they transferred us to their exclusive island resort, only accessible through a 30-minute boat ride.
I was expecting the proposal to happen that very night when Chris planned a private candlelit dinner on the beach, so I tried to finish every piece of food on the table hoping to find a ring. However, nothing happened!
The next morning, we agreed to catch the sunrise and explore the resort’s premises. We did a mini hike and checked out different private beaches, then walked (unsuspectingly in my case) onto the last private beach, which had a breakfast set-up surrounded by rose petals. While having breakfast at sunrise, three guitarists appeared singing a love song, and that’s when Chris got down on one knee. The rest of the days were spent chilling on deck chairs and snorkeling around the island.
Coron Island was on my bucket list and I’m happy we got to mark one of our special moments there.” ~ Ally
Tell us more about your elopement and honeymoon in New Zealand!
“For our elopement, we took a helicopter up to Mount Roy in Wanaka with our wedding celebrant and photographers. Perched at the edge of the mountain, our celebrant Tracy gave us a beautiful reading and guided us through our vows. We then enjoyed a bottle of champagne and had our fantastic photographers take us through some easy shots.
When we were back on the ground, our photographers Fredrik and Meagan drove us to Lake Wanaka for more shots. Fredrik threw in a bonus location as we went on a search for some nice sakura trees, thanks to random chats about Japan!
It’s amazing that everything was covered in four hours, which gave us more energy to enjoy the rest of the evening. We loved that the whole process was hassle-free and casual, and everyone went out of the way to make our day special, including our Airbnb host who called up a restaurant to reserve the best seats for us.
For our honeymoon, we did a 15-day South Island road trip, starting from Queenstown to Dunedin and back to Christchurch. We were moving from town to town every day and selected beautiful Airbnbs that offered a mountainous view from our bedroom.
Some highlights from the trip were: camping by Lake Pukaki in our motorhome which came with a retractable BBQ pit; star-gazing at the Church of Good Shepherd in the comfort of our motorhome; exciting Luge rides; skydiving; paragliding; visiting the Alpaca farm; a private kayak tour at Milford Sound; tramping at Ben Lomond (the view was breathtaking!); wine and star-gazing at the back of our Airbnb; and private onsens with an amazing view.” ~ Ally
How did you go about planning your elopement (sourcing for a location, finding an officiant, etc)?
“I started with Google’s suggestion on unique private weddings around the world and chanced upon the idea of a heli-wedding. I’ve always wanted to have my honeymoon in New Zealand, so I thought we could work on a smart budget by combining our ROM ceremony, pre-wedding photography and honeymoon in a single trip.
I emailed Heliweddings and the owner, Laura, is an experienced wedding planner who linked us up with vendors for hair, makeup, flowers and a list of celebrants/officiants. We picked our location based off the packages they offered and topped up for exclusive use of the mountain.
Laura also helped us to apply for our marriage license, communicated my preferences to the different vendors and even arranged for Skype meetings with our celebrant.” ~ Ally
Congratulations on your marriage, Chris and Ally! May it be every bit as beautiful as your elopement!
