Cut Footloose: Amanda Wong and Zen's Reception Dinner at Artemis Grill

In contrast to photographer and Instagrammer Amanda Wong (@beautifuladieu) and Zen’s more muted morning solemnisation at Hotel Fort Canning, the couple decked out their Singapore wedding reception dinner at Artemis Grill with rich and vibrant jewel-toned flowers by Blanc Studios and décor by Invited. The rooftop reception saw the newlyweds and their “friends-only” guest list let loose with karaoke and the first “leg high five” wedding toast we’ve seen on the site, captured on camera by Samuel Goh and planned by Holy Moly.

What was your theme and colour palette?
“As a photographer, I love colours and I wanted a really colourful dinner venue. I wanted something different from the morning decorations - something that would suit the mood and atmosphere of our intimate dinner with our friends. I decided to go with a jewel-toned colour palette (our guests were encouraged to come in all different colours except bright red and black), and I wanted to play around with geometry and different materials such as acrylic as well.

Loretta, our stylist, got a deep fuchsia velvet love seat for Zen and me, while our guests were seated on gorgeous green quilted chairs provided by the restaurant. We had fairy lights hanging off the ceiling and candles everywhere to create a more romantic mood too.

Artemis Grill has floor-to-ceiling glass windows that look out to a beautiful skyline, so we made sure the windows were free of any decorations so that our guests could also enjoy the view.

We had disposable cameras (dressed in jewel-toned sleeves!) placed at every table so that our guests could help us capture some memories that our photographer may have missed out on. The venue was already pretty to begin with, but all props to the team at Invited and Blanc Studios for making our dinner venue more beautiful than we could have imagined!” ~ Amanda

Did you undertake any DIY projects?
“Yes, I actually designed the monogram, table seating plan, and other print outs for the wedding myself! My bridesmaids helped to write the seating plan onto the acrylic board the night before, while my stylist, Loretta, also did a whole bunch of DIY for the decor.” ~ Amanda

What sort of wedding favours did you opt for, and why?
“For our evening reception, since it was a friends-only party, we didn't think favours were important as we were more focused on the experience we wanted to deliver. However, the restaurant surprised us and gave complimentary tea sachets to the guests (which were packed really nicely!) and our friends loved them!” ~ Amanda

Please tell us more about your reception!
“We really enjoyed our celebration at night, so much so that can you believe we both walked in already tipsy? Most of our guests were knocked out by the end of the night too, and our guests upstaged our band with an impromptu karaoke session. I remember Chelsea pleading with me to get Zen off the stage because he had sung the same song thrice already! (laughs)

I also fell at one point while doing a leg-hi-5 with my cousin and Zen had drunkenly forgot he was supporting my other leg. I fell backwards with wine all over my face onto (thankfully) fake candles. I ran off to the back to change into a short skirt and sneakers after. Brides-to-be, remember to bring a comfortable change of clothes if you're going to go crazy!” ~ Amanda

Warmest congratulations again on your marriage, Amanda and Zen!
