After DJ asked for Madelene’s hand while holidaying in Australia, the couple decided to gather their closest family and friends for a celebration at The White Rabbit in Dempsey, Singapore.
Captured by Annabel of Annabel Law Productions and Kompactfaen and styled by Invited SG, the outdoor solemnisation area and indoor lunch venue featured vibrant hues of red, orange and pink blooms, giving the entire space a lively and vibrant air. Guests were also treated to a customisable tea bar featuring blends from Kindred Teas, a brand that the bride founded.
How did you meet?
“DJ and I knew each other existed back in Anglo-Chinese Junior College. However, we only properly met at Singapore Management University in 2012 when DJ was in his first year, and I was in my second year. I was participating in a school pageant along with one of DJ’s friends. There was a day when we had to go around school and take photos with as many people as possible. When DJ was taking photos with his friend, I casually asked him to take a photo with me too. I had to upload and tag the person on Facebook as well, so I added him as a friend on Facebook, and we have not gone a single day since then without talking – the rest is history!” ~ Madelene
How did DJ propose?
“We were on holiday in Australia. DJ proposed at Cape Otway Lighthouse, one of the stops along the Great Ocean Road. It is a beautiful white lighthouse and the oldest surviving lighthouse on mainland Australia. It was against a stunning view of the crashing waves against the cliffs. He had been scouting for a good location to propose that was both scenic as well as private so that we had the moment all to ourselves. It was winter and really cold and windy, and I couldn’t wait to get back into the car, but DJ insisted on going back to this specific viewpoint to take a photo. That was when he proposed. I exclaimed “no” but I really meant yes because I was so overwhelmed! I cried the happiest tears.” ~ Madelene
How did you decorate your venues? Did you undertake any DIY projects?
“Having worked with Invited before, I knew that I had to have them decorate our venue!” ~ Madelene
What sort of wedding favours did you opt for, and why?
“We opted for a blend-it-yourself tea bar, as well as blooming teas as wedding favours. Madelene is a tea lover and also the founder of Kindred Teas.” ~ DJ
Any tips or advice on what you think makes a strong marriage?
“Communication is really important. Even when you have arguments, know that there is a right way to “fight”. Always be respectful, present and listen to each other. Make time for each other and pamper one another by doing the little things, even if it’s just making a cup of tea or letting your husband play his video games when he’s stressed! Lastly, never go to bed angry – say “I love you” and kiss each other goodnight, every night.” ~ Madelene
Congratulations on your marriage, DJ and Madelene! May it be every bit as beautiful as your wedding!
