We’re delighted to be continuing our series of submissions from Malaysia with today’s pre-wedding photo shoot featuring some of the capital city’s most beautiful green spaces and iconic landmarks. Danny and Jan’s spontaneity comes across effortlessly in these unhurried captures by Blue Cicada Photography.
How did you meet and what was the proposal like?
“We met through Danny's acquaintance whom I was traveling with in Kuala Lumpur. It was a short holiday for me and Danny spent a few days bringing us around to see the city.
There was nothing in the beginning. But slowly we started chatting online and got closer. We met up through the several work visits Danny made to Singapore, and that was when the sparks began. The rest is history.
Marriage came naturally next in our courtship. It was a traditional and simple but beautiful moment; Danny asked for my hand in marriage in front of my mom.” ~ Jan
Any tips or wedding advice for other brides and grooms to-be?
“Any couple will want a very personalised wedding. But that also means that this ambitious endeavour will require a lot of time, money and people involved. As a general rule of thumb, it is best to list everything and cut out anything that is too over-the-top. At the end of the day, simplicity and what's close to the heart will rule the wedding.” ~ Danny and Jan
Any tips or advice to share on what you think makes a strong marriage?
“Communication, communication and communication. We can't emphasise this enough. Don't let ego creep into the relationship, and listen to each other. Also there are a lot of dynamics in a marriage; there are times when we act like a couple, sometimes as friends, and others as silly kids having fun.” ~ Danny and Jan
What was the inspiration behind your shoot?
“We are both nature lovers. We wanted to find a way to incorporate that into our theme and we worked with Caroline to conceptualise the idea and venues.
We are also fans of historical architecture. Some of the locations and buildings were discovered by surprise. That's the best part about photography: you can plan everything, but you should leave some room for surprises.” ~ Danny and Jan
Do you have any interesting moments or stories to share from the day of shooting?
“We somehow felt like tourists even though we've visited KL so many times! We know we got the right photographer because we were seeing KL through the eyes of a French lady and it was refreshing. The shoot felt like a walk in the park.
Caroline was such a sport, art-directing our poses, and walking around lugging her heavy camera equipment in the humid weather. It was fun shooting with her!” ~ Danny and Jan
