Derek and Natasha tied the knot at a beautiful outdoor solemnisation by the sea in Bali’s The Ungasan Clifftop Resort. Planned by Twogather Bali and captured by Axioo and Balimetro Wedding Cinematography, the couple pledged their love for each other beneath a wedding arch overflowing with white flowers and boughs of fresh greenery.
Their dinner reception, meanwhile, had a rustic quality to it, from the lush streamers of green leaves hanging from the ceiling to the solid oak dining tables guests were seated at. The couple marched in while surrounded by guests who were holding sparklers, and showed off some nifty footwork on the dance floor later.
How did two of you meet and fall in love?
“We met on the first day of dental school in the hallway outside a lecture room. There was an instant attraction between us, but nothing progressed until after we graduated. A few months after graduation, we organised a group catch-up dinner. However, our other friends didn’t end up coming and we went ahead to have dinner with just the two of us. Unsurprisingly, we hit it off really well, and the rest is just history.” ~ Derek and Natasha
How did Derek propose?
“After five years together, we went on a long awaited trip to the US. A couple of days after we arrived in New York, somehow Derek was really eager to go to the Empire State Building. I told him that we didn’t have to go that night (it was almost 11pm) and we had other days to go there instead, but Derek still insisted and so we went. After a couple of hours enjoying the view, Derek suddenly got down on one knee and proposed with a ring. I was very surprised and almost forgot to say yes! It was an unusually warm night in October, and I must say it was the perfect weather for a memorable occasion!” ~ Natasha
What was your wedding’s theme/style/color palette?
“Our theme was rustic elegance with elements of fun. Our colour palette was of woody tones, with gold, white and a touch of grey.” ~ Derek and Natasha
How did you decorate your venue?
“Decoration was all planned and done by the Designmill team. There were months of planning, drawing, and discussions between their team and us. They made sure that we were happy with every little detail, and they also did a mock-up a few weeks before the wedding to ensure that everything was as we had imagined.” ~ Derek and Natasha
What sort of wedding favours did you opt for, and why?
“We chose handmade soaps to give to our guests, because we always wanted to give something that can be used and does not contribute to landfills. The soaps had really lovely fragrances and were made with natural ingredients. They also did not contain palm oil, which is an issue that is important to us.” ~ Derek and Natasha
Do you have any special memories of your wedding to share?
“Our most enjoyable part of the night was our two wedding dances. We did one slow dance and one upbeat dance. Derek did not have any dance experience previously and he pulled them off really well! For couples that are scared of wedding dances, don’t be! Just give yourselves enough time to learn the dance (we started six months before the wedding) and it will all be worth it at the end.” ~ Derek and Natasha
Any tips or wedding advice you have for other brides and grooms to-be?
“It is important that both the bride and groom be actively involved together with the planning. It is your special day together, and we feel that you should not try to cut too many costs but also try to stay within budget. Remember to have fun on the day as it can fly by very quickly. Having a great wedding organiser also helps to make sure everything goes smoothly. Most importantly, don’t choose a vendor just because they’re popular – you need to be happy with their personality and how they interact with you as well.” ~ Derek and Natasha
Any tips or advice on what you think makes a strong marriage?
“Respect each other’s differences, interests, goals. Make time to do things together even if it is just to binge-watch some TV. Encourage each other to pursue your own interests and hobbies. And lastly, work towards a common goal.” ~ Derek and Natasha
Congratulations on your marriage, Derek and Natasha! May it be every bit as beautiful as your wedding!
