To celebrate a lifetime of love together, Eu Wing and Cathryn held an intimate solemnisation at their condominium apartment home in Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur with 40 of their dearest family and friends.
Captured by Manoj Nair Photography and planned/styled by the groom’s sister, Leong Shen-Lynn of blush + navy, the glass-walled indoor event space was filled with the prettiest pastel touches, from the whimsical wedding arch to the rose-topped cupcakes and the bride’s white and pale pink floral bouquet.
How did you meet and fall in love?
“We met in high school when Wing was 16 and I was 14. We dated for a very brief period back then, but went our separate ways until we found our way back to each other when we were in university. The first few years of our relationship were long-distance, and we do believe that this experience made us stronger and more trusting as a couple. The rest, of course, is history!” ~ Cathryn
Eu Wing, how did you propose?
“It all started with a planned trip to New Zealand for a holiday, with the idea of doing an impromptu proposal. Thinking that everywhere in New Zealand was beautiful, I decided to wing it.
The proposal happened during a drive to Gem Alpaca Stud. My wife was really excited to visit it, as it was one of the very few places where you were able to be up close with the alpacas and feed them, pet them and most importantly, be surrounded by them.
As I was running out of time and places to pop the question, I decided that that was it. I was going to stop at a spot along the side of the road which I thought looked pretty nice. So, we did just that. I told my wife I was going to make a stop and take some photos of Lake Pukaki. She was getting quite frustrated at this point as she was extremely excited to visit the alpacas.
The location was quiet—it was just the two of us. I set up my tripod, placed my camera and reached for my bag where I hid the ring. I had set my camera to continuously snap photos and told her that I was going to do something different this time as it was the first time I was using this function. I stood next to her, asked her to strike a random pose, and I got down on one knee and asked her if she would marry me. She said yes!
Shortly after, we spotted a tour bus coming our way and quickly got in the car as we didn't enjoy having an audience. I placed the ring on her finger and gave her a kiss. We then made our way to Gem Alpaca Stud, and she got to end her day with probably the more important event: not the proposal but having played with alpacas!” ~ Eu Wing
What was your wedding’s theme/style/colour palette?
“Seeing as it was an afternoon affair, we decided on a rustic theme.” ~ Eu Wing and Cathryn
How did you decorate your venue? Did you undertake any DIY projects?
“The décor was completely DIY! With our sister as the chief decorator, everything from the table spread, arch and flowers was her doing. Wing also supported her in building the arch by putting to good use his past Scouts experience. She’s now looking to turn this into a business called blush + navy.” ~ Cathryn
Any tips or wedding advice you have for other brides and grooms to-be?
“Start early! We had the privilege of having a fairly long engagement (1.5 years or so), so there was plenty of time for us to think about what we wanted (research, research and more research!) and who we wanted in this journey with us to help us make this happen. We’re very lucky to be able to secure and work with all the vendors we had in mind!” ~ Eu Wing and Cathryn
Any tips or advice on what you think makes a strong marriage?
“Trust and respect. I know everybody says that but it’s only because it’s true. There is no relationship that only rides a high, and in trying times as a couple, it’s important to trust that your better half will always do right by you and will go the extra mile to understand and respect your views.” ~ Eu Wing and Cathryn
Congratulations on your marriage, Eu Wing and Cathryn! May it be every bit as beautiful as your wedding!
