After eight years of courtship, Fakhrul and Deanna began a new life together as man and wife in a nostalgia-tinged wedding outdoor celebration with a lush pelamin (dais) at K’Seena House, a 100-year-old heritage home in Kuang, Selangor, Malaysia.
Dressed in sweet lavender hues, the couple looked picture-perfect and made for each other. The billowy white canopy under which their wedding guests dined also lent a relaxed yet sophisticated vibe, as these images captured by Malaysia-based photographer Ameirfikri reveal.
How did you meet and fall in love?
“We were working at the same place at the time and became close friends/colleagues for three months before we started to have feelings for each other. We dated for eight years and finally decided to get married.” ~ Fakhrul and Deanna
How did Fakhrul propose?
“There are different kinds of proposals for different cultures. Fakhrul proposed to me according to traditional Malay customs, in which he and his parents came to my house with a ring to propose and asked permission from my parents to marry me.” ~ Deanna
What was your wedding’s theme/style/colour palette?
“We wanted to do an ‘80s-style traditional Malay wedding. Our colour palette was lavender and lilac.” ~ Fakhrul and Deanna
How did you decorate your venues?
“All credit goes to K’Seena House for making our dream wedding come true. We wanted to bring the nostalgia of the ‘80s to life, and they definitely did it.” ~ Fakhrul and Deanna
What sort of wedding favours did you opt for, and why?
“Our wedding favours were handmade Batik hand fans. They fit the theme of our wedding and were also useful because our wedding was held outdoors.” ~ Fakhrul and Deanna
Any tips or wedding advice you have for other brides and grooms to-be?
“My number one advice is to never ever procrastinate! It is important to keep track of everything, from picking out bridesmaids’ outfits to choosing your venue, etc. Nowadays, there are apps for this, so it is easier for soon-to-be brides to keep track of wedding stuff. In terms of cost savings, it is important to research, pick a few options and be open to suggestions. For example, last-minute bookings can increase the price of wedding favours.” ~ Deanna
Any tips or advice on what you think makes a strong marriage?
“Love your partner unconditionally, be honest with each other, and lastly, trust. Those are the three things that will keep the marriage strong.” ~ Deanna
Congratulations on your marriage, Fakhrul and Deanna! May it be every bit as beautiful as your wedding!
