Glamourous Bridal Prep Inspiration, Old Hollywood Style

"It was only after my own wedding that I realised that many of the images I would come to cherish would be taken during the morning of, surrounded by my nearest and dearest, as they all bustled about and got ready for the day ahead. Yet, this part of a wedding is something that perhaps brides do not necessarily pay a lot of attention to. Thus, the inspiration for the loveliest of styled shoots was born!

Shot at InterContinental Singapore with wonderful imagery by Chen Sands Photography and styling by Heaven in a Wild Flower, this shoot stars one of my best friends and real bride-to-be, Julie Wee, together with her sister and friends, in gowns from Jessicacindy, The Prelude Bridal and White Runway with hair and makeup by Indigo Artisans. Be sure to read on after the jump for more details about the shoot, and all the vendors that made it possible!" ~ Leana

A word from Eunice, Heaven in a Wild Flower...
"Chen and I started off with a colour in mind - Emerald Green. This was a strong jewel-toned colour that both of us loved but felt was under-utilised in many of the colour palettes we see for weddings today. This bold colour brought to mind the glamour of Old Hollywood, which formed the broad inspiration for shoot. We added in a very soft pink (almost nude) to soften the green, as well as gold to inject glamour and glitz.

Chen and Leana wanted to have a fun, cosy shoot featuring a bride and her girls getting ready so we chose to shoot in an indoor location. The Shophouse Suite at the Intercontinental Hotel was perfect for this with its grand room and colonial details! I added bits of the colour palette through florals and some small props to ensure we had a coherent colour scheme and look. The Old Hollywood glamour look is one of sophistication and luxe, so materials like velvet and silk were used as accents.

Bridesmaids' dresses are a key feature of bringing across a wedding colour scheme. We decided to go with different dresses of different colours, but to pull it off, we stuck to our chosen colour palette and made sure there were common elements (like the sequins, or similar silhouettes) among the dresses. These dresses from White Runway and The Prelude Bridal certainly were a focal point! The hair and make-up by Jo for the bride and her party also drew its inspiration from the 50s era of screen goddesses, which completed the look for the ladies.

While the iconic shots of a hanging wedding dress, bride putting on her dress, bridal shoes are often must-haves on the shot list, there are so many other details that one can organise for and capture during this precious time if just a little thought is put into it. Here are some tips!

1. Bridal robes!!! No more ugly t-shirt and shorts please. Invest in a lovely wraparound robe like this lace one from Perk by Kate that Julie is wearing, and gift similar satin ones (ours were from Lunapompom) to your bridesmaids, so everyone looks all the more lovely while they're getting ready.

2. Prepare some simple cocktails and snacks for your bridal party to nibble on as it's going to be a long day! It's never too early for Mimosas or champagne!

3. Bridal Party Survival Kit - everything you may need for the day and more!

4. Fun moments - while it is your big day with the most important person in your life, it is also a great time to celebrate the friendships with your BFFs! Get your photographer to capture all sorts of beautiful moments and a thoughtful gift exchange is a wonderful way to show your love and appreciation for one other. The earrings and birthstone rings featured here are from Choo Yilin jewellery."
