With Singapore having just celebrated its Golden Jubilee, we’re so excited to be sharing the nuptials of our local singers Alfred Sim and Tay Kewei. This talented duo of performing artistes was part of the ensemble that sang the winning entry of Mediacorp’s songwriting competition for the nation’s 50th Anniversary!
Complete with a surprise proposal party and secretly planned engagement shoot in Tokyo, the couple’s celebrations started with a day ceremony of sweet blush and champagne colours before concluding with a grand Gala Awards-inspired banquet at the Shangri-La Hotel Singapore. The entertainment-filled affair shot by Yu Hsin of Tinydot Photography and planned by Chere: Weddings and Parties is definitely one fit for stars.
Watch how the groom pulled off the surprise proposal party and destination engagement shoot in this short film captured by Ideally Yours…
How did you meet?
“We met in 2005, when our good friend Peter Huang (now vocal percussionist and founder of a cappella group MICappella) launched his album. We were both guest artistes at his concert.” ~ Kewei
How did he propose?
“He arranged a surprise proposal party, invited our friends and family, got a band together, learnt the guitar and sang one of the songs I’d written "So In Love". After the party, we reached home at 1am, and he told me to pack my bags as we were going to the airport at 3am to catch a flight to Tokyo! When we reached Tokyo, the next surprise was our wedding photography team from Ideally Yours was already at the airport. For the next three days we went for shoots, as they had brought a gown for me as well!” ~ Kewei
What was the theme and colour palette of your wedding?
“We chose Gala Awards as the theme of the wedding since we are both singers. The "Best Newcomer" award was given to us, which also means “newlyweds” in Mandarin. Our parents were given the “Lifetime Achievement” awards. The colour palette of our wedding consisted of blush pink and champagne with a dash of gold and black” ~ Alfred and Kewei
How did you decorate your venues?
“The venues were decorated with advice from our wedding planner Chere Weddings and Parties. We also had our logo designed by Pearlyn and Paper, lights by Aux Mediagroup, and a candy bar styled by Stich x Marker.” ~ Alfred and Kewei
Any tips or advice for other couples out there?
“A successful relationship is based on being continuously interested in and being in admiration of each other. Those are things that need to be constantly reinvigorated, as we can't just admire the same things we did 10 years ago. We've been incredibly blessed to have exciting careers, and have grown together in this journey.” ~ Alfred and Kewei
Congratulations on your marriage, Alfred and Kewei! May it be every bit as beautiful as your wedding!
