Take an art director and a writer and you’ve got yourself a recipe for the perfect offbeat wedding. Shyyi took her affinity for all things gold and industrial and ran with it for her nuptials with Ufai at Ex8 Subang Jaya, shot by Catking Photography. Bliss and Glitz's decor with touches of sparkle added just the right amount of glitz and glam to the memorable affair.
Here is a screencap of the 'fake' Instagram account Ufai created for his proposal to Shyyi:
Here are a few snaps from the couple's pre-wedding shoot by Moldew:
How did you meet?
“We both met while working in the same advertising agency. I was the art director and he was the writer, and we got paired up for a job.” ~ Shyyi
How did he propose?
“It might be the funniest proposal story ever. We were in Hong Kong celebrating my birthday, and Ufai tried to get me to open the fridge by showing me this Instagram post made by a guest staying in the same hotel, showing a fridge full of Häagen-Dazs ice cream. I found out later that he created a fake profile on Instagram just to set the whole thing up! The ring was actually inside the fridge, but I didn’t realise it right away because I was too focused on looking for the ice cream instead! (laughs) Once he prompted me a second time, I realised that there was a ring freezing in there.” ~ Shyyi
What was the theme of your wedding?
“I personally love industrial and gold a lot, and for the wedding I thought it would be great to combine both to give a glamorous touch to the industrial theme.” ~ Shyyi
How did you decorate your venues? Did you undertake any DIY projects?
“I’m a designer/art director myself and I've been helping out in the decorating business on a part-time basis. I love exploring unique venues and everything else that comes with the territory. It took me about a year to plan and prepare the wedding, from the venue and theme to the execution and setup, up until the day before. Without the help and input from Jokee of Bliss and Glitz, this whole thing wouldn’t have happened.” ~ Shyyi
What are some of your favourite memories from the day?
“My favourite memories are all the speeches given by my girlfriends. They brought me to tears! Life wouldn’t be complete without them. I will also fondly remember all the drinking and dancing at our afterparty where everyone had fun!” ~ Shyyi
Any tips or wedding advice for other brides and grooms-to-be?
“Never get into a fight during the planning stage; it should be a happy process and it only happens once in a lifetime. Discuss and solve problems together, and never forget the reason you’re getting married in the first place.” ~ Shyyi
What do you think makes a strong marriage?
“Trust and making the effort to spend quality time together despite your hectic schedules.” ~ Shyyi
Congratulations on your marriage, Ufai and Shyyi! May it be every bit as beautiful as your wedding!
