Jonathan proposed to Karyn on a beautiful sunset evening in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The couple, who are Malaysian and Indonesian respectively, then decided to hold their nuptials in the chic environs of The Mulia, a luxurious beachside resort in Bali.
Captured by Malaysia-based photographer Vinoth Raj Pillai and Bali-based videography studio Leura Film, the wedding day festivities began with a rambunctious gatecrash session. The groom and his groomsmen donned superhero costumes (Jonathan looked like a character right out of Dragonball Z) and prepared to win his bride’s heart through a series of challenges created by the bridesmaids.
After exchanging their vows in a stunning glass-walled chapel on the hotel grounds, the newlyweds and their 280 guests dined under the twinkling night sky, with a traditional Indonesian dance and a live band performance providing some of the night’s happy entertainment.
How did you meet?
“It was a blind date set up by a close friend. Only Karyn did not know she was on a blind date.” ~ Jonathan
What was your wedding’s theme/style/colour palette?
“I love pastel colours. Blush, greens and whites have always looked great together.” ~ Karyn
How did you decorate your venues? Did you undertake any DIY projects?
“I had amazing and talented bridesmaids that helped with adding a personal touch, like writing all the welcome notes and hand-lettering my signs. I was very lucky!” ~ Karyn
What sort of wedding favours did you opt for, and why?
“We did custom sarongs designed and inspired by our venue. We figured they’d be useful for our guests who were travelling here, and also Bali gets windy at night so if they needed to use it they could. We also did custom popsockets (phone grips) with our art work!” ~ Jonathan and Karyn
Any tips or wedding advice you have for other brides and grooms to-be?
“Pick your date and venue, from there things should flow more easily.” ~ Jonathan and Karyn
