Sabrina always knew that she wanted to have a garden wedding so her fur kids could be a part of her big day. She and Jun Jie celebrated their nuptials in the garden of their home, overlooking the golf course at Tropicana Golf and Country Resort. The intimate ceremony was captured by Duncan Mak of The Wedding Barn and styled by Moments.
Watch this short film of the couple's wedding day captured by Hor Videography:
How they met:
“JJ is a good friend of Sabrina's older brother, and two met at casual outings with mutual friends. It was only a few years later that JJ decided to ask Sabrina out for dinner and a movie.”
How he proposed:
“JJ is a shy but romantic individual, and he proposed to Sabrina with a DIY flower arrangement and a poem he wrote just for her.”
Here's a peek at their proposal and Sabrina's ring selfie...
What was theme of your wedding?
“It was Sabrina’s dream to have a garden wedding as it was really important to her to include her fur kids, Sugar & Bailey in our wedding. The gold and pastel colour palette complimented the romantic rustic theme. We browsed Pinterest for inspiration, and pinned everything we saw that fit our theme.”
How did you decorate your venue?
“We were lucky enough to be able to host our ROM ceremony in our garden at home, overlooking a golf course and a lake. It was the perfect location for us! We styled it with simple rustic floral arrangements and gold chivalry chairs. The garden is already picturesque – we didn’t have to do much to make it look good. We also believe that ‘less is more’.”
Did you undertake any DIY projects?
“Yes! Sabrina strongly believes in adding personal touches to intimate events such as weddings. She designed the paper fans and hand tied all the ribbons on each of them. She also hand picked all the items that were used to decorate our the wedding, down to the type of chairs, the color of the table runners, and even glassware. On the day before the ceremony, she observed the setup of the flower arch by Moments to make sure that it adhered to our colour scheme. Even then, not everything turned out the way we expected them to.”
What sort of wedding favors did you opt for, and why?
“It was a garden wedding in Malaysia, so what could be better than cool air? Apart from the paper fans we provided, we ordered battery-operated handheld fans for all our guests. To add a personal touch to the fans, we included LED lights that displayed our initials, J and S.”
Any tips or wedding advice for other brides and grooms-to-be?
“Planning a dream wedding and balancing the costs that come along with it is never easy. We believe that weddings don’t need to cost a bomb, but of course, it’s important to be mentally and emotionally prepared when the bills come!
We definitely learned a lot more about each other as a couple while planning our wedding. It can be both fun and frustrating at the same time, but in a good way. After all, it’s the first step of our future together.”
What do you think makes a strong marriage?
“JJ's secret is to overcome every problem with a smile. Even in hard times, find reasons to laugh together. It probably explains why JJ is always smiling!”
Congratulations on your marriage, Jun Jie and Sabrina! May it be every bit as beautiful as your wedding!
