Justin and Li Qing's Ballroom Wedding Aglow With Lights

01p

Designed around the bride’s favourite colour and love for fairy lights, Anna of Spellbound Weddings enhanced Capella’s ballroom with a platform of fairy lights so that every step taken by the couple down the aisle twinkled with promise. As you can see from these captures by Bryan Jean Photography, image projections of forests, fields of flowers, mountains, lakes, stars and constellations on the ballroom walls immersed guests in a sensorial experience throughout the dinner.

Watch this short film of the couple's wedding day captured by Substance Films…

How did you meet?
“We first met in December 2011 during a road safety dinner at Resorts World Sentosa. We were introduced by a mutual friend and ended up sitting next to each other for dinner.” ~ Justin and Li Qing

What was the proposal like?
“He popped the question on October 2014 at Samujana, an amazing 7-room villa in Koh Samui. We were there previously with friends in 2013, and we all loved it! So I would say that the villa holds special meaning for us.

He secretly arranged the proposal with our closest friends, and 18 of them flew up to Koh Samui for the surprise. He had the poolside decorated with balloons and a large ‘Marry Me’ made of roses and floating on the water.

I had the shock of my life when I walked through the large wooden doors and saw the words in the pool. As Justin took my hand and led me to the edge of the pool, our friends all jumped out from hiding! He then knelt down and popped the question. True to form, he was more humorous than romantic when he asked! When I said ‘yes’,  our friends released a large bunch of balloons into the blue sky - it was really a magical moment for me.” ~ Li Qing

What was your theme and colour palette?
"I have always loved the colour blue, as well as romantic fairy lights. I shared this with Anna, my wedding planner from Spellbound, and she helped me to visualise and create a beautiful setting which we loved!” ~ Li Qing

How did you decorate your venues?
“Beautiful blue lights lined the aisle, which was built on a platform of fairy lights leading to the stage. The hall was decorated with tall bouquets of white Phalaenopsis orchids and blue hydrangeas.

Anna also gave us the idea of image projections on the ballroom walls! Before and during the march-in, we had a special 3D projection which included scenery, our pictures and fireworks. Throughout the dinner, the room was lit up with dancing live projections of forests, fields of flowers, mountains, lakes, stars and constellations! I think it was a wonderful sensory experience for our guests as they had their dinner!” ~ Justin and Li Qing

What sort of wedding favors did you opt for, and why?
“Our wedding favours were leather travel currency wallets in black for men and red for ladies, with multi-coloured zips. The wallets were all individually customised and printed with our guests' names! We wanted something special and yet useful for our guests, and we thought that printing their individual names added a warmer touch to the gift!” ~ Justin and Li Qing

Do you have any tips and wedding advice for other brides and grooms-to-be?
“Start planning early, and work with vendors and friends that you can trust to execute the wedding. Delegation to the right people is a skill! Make sure that you have a ‘to-do’ checklist which you can refer to, and adhere to the planning timeline. Be prepared for differences in opinions from your husband/wife, family members and friends! While most ladies (or men!) want to organise their dream wedding, it is important to ensure that your partner's views are heard and considered. It's all a game of give and take.” ~ Justin and Li Qing
