“Even I never dreamed of Magic like this!”
― C. S. Lewis, The Chronicles of Narnia
C. S. Lewis’ fantasy world of magic and myth inspired Luke and Charis to have a Narnia-themed church wedding in Singapore, styled by Loretta of Invited and photographed by onemustardseed. Even we never dreamed of matrimonial magic like this - rustic decorations in soft neutral hues with punches of plum purple and lilac, and wood and woodland accents.
How did you meet?
“We grew up in church together and knew each other since lower secondary school.” ~ Luke and Charis
How did Luke propose?
“I cooked dinner for her (aglio olio with scallops) and we then took a walk despite the rainy weather (which amazingly decided to stop just as we decided to take a walk). We ended up walking to a pavilion in a park where I had friends hiding in the playground waiting to film the proposal. I proposed in the pavilion which was decorated with the bride's favourite Winnie the Pooh bear and fairy lights (but also with taichi music playing the background because somehow there was a taichi group out and about.)” ~ Luke and Charis
What were some unique or personal touches?
“We didn't really have any specific colour palette in mind before we met our wedding stylist (Invited), but we knew that we wanted a Narnian-themed wedding because it's one of our favourite movies and novels. The story really speaks to our hearts! We completely left it to Loretta of Invited’s imagination & creativity to conceptualise this idea for us, and we think she did a fantastic job!
We opted to customise personalised wedding coasters for our guests as wedding favours. We wanted something practical yet not too simple. We also wanted people to not just remember our wedding, but to be encouraged by the message on the coaster. Our dear friend did the design.” ~ Luke and Charis
Do you have any tips or wedding advice for other brides and grooms-to-be?
“Because planning can be stressful and at times overwhelming, trust that you can tap on your friends for help. Ultimately, enjoy the process and know that at the end, the marriage itself is still more important than the wedding day.” ~ Luke and Charis
Any tips or advice on what makes a strong marriage?
“Always find one thing to be thankful for in your spouse, in the morning when you wake up and at night before you sleep.” ~ Luke and Charis
Congratulations on your marriage, Luke and Charis! May it be every bit as beautiful as your wedding!
