Mack and Joyce’s story is one of a true Italian love affair which began with a sunset proposal on the rooftop of the Gothic cathedral Duomo di Milano, followed by a private and personal elopement in Tuscany and an intimate bohemian luxe-themed wedding at La Brasserie, The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore. This beautiful wedding, shot by Andri Tei, was imbued with velvety dark reds, greens and golds to complement their stylish restaurant surrounds.
How did you meet?
“We met at Starbucks! I was a barista waiting for university to start and Mack was a customer. He would come to Starbucks to order his favorite skinny latte before work and it was on one of these occasions that he struck up a conversation with me. And the fairytale has continued on ever since.” ~ Joyce
What was the proposal like?
“He proposed at the top of Duomo di Milano in Milan, Italy. We were on holiday with my sister and brother-in-law. Mack was holding the ring with him the entire trip, waiting for the best moment to propose. Secretly, without informing my sister and bro-in-law, he waited for sunset, knelt down on bended knee and proposed at the top of Duomo right under the watchful blessings of our beloved Mother Mary.” ~ Joyce
What was your theme and colour palette?
“Everything was DIY-ed by myself with the help of my family! The theme was ‘Bohemian Luxe’ – imagine deep reds and greens with touches of gold and rose gold!
These were designed by Mack and printed and hot-stamped in gold by our supplier friend. We then self-assembled the various elements together.
The venue at La Brasserie speaks for itself with its old French-style. I had a vision of how we wanted the wedding to be and went ahead to source for decor.
On entering, guests were greeted with a huge table which we decorated with gold wired baskets, gold terrariums and white candles. Photo albums from our photoshoot in Paris and Tuscany were also displayed. Our guest book alternative was a canvas photo of us taken in Tuscany.
All the dining tables were arranged in long format. Mirage Flowers arranged free flowing florals in deep reds and greens with light touches of soft pink on the tables. These were further accentuated with hand-sprayed gold wine bottles (recycling is good!), loose leaves and finally candles to add to the messy boho vibe.
The VIP dining table had two flower arrangements using deep red peonies, ranunculus and loose leaves on top of a gold Victorian stand. The florist did a great job with the flowers according to how I envisioned them to be.
The diffusers were bought in Thailand. We removed the shop's stickers and replaced them with our own logo which was printed on matte gold stickers. Each favour was then tied and displayed on the dining table, adding to the bohemian luxe feel. The diffusers were chosen as I have a soft spot for diffusers and anything pleasant-smelling! The scent was selected by both of us – it was a woody, powdery and musky scent.” ~ Joyce
Do you have any other stories you’d like to share with us?
“We did a private symbolic wedding with just the two of us, celebrant, photographer and videographer (no family and friends) in Tuscany. It was there that we exchanged our personal vows and created a video to be shared with our family and friends on the actual wedding day in Singapore. The entire experience was magical and memorable, something I would encourage couples to do because it is that day which we remember the most and you can truly enjoy every moment of it without being rushed around. Go ahead and experience it, it's magical!” ~ Joyce
Any tips or wedding advice for other brides and grooms to-be?
“We always wanted a small intimate wedding, which we had! Our tip is that it is much more cost-saving to book a hotel's restaurant like we did than an independent restaurant because the addition of hotel rooms, parking coupons and rental of AV equipment will end up costing you more!
DIY was harder than I thought but it did save us a lot!” ~ Joyce
What do you think makes a strong marriage?
“Almost everyone says that marriage life is different from dating. But to us, it is no different. You just have to be understanding, compromise and come to a joint resolution. Don't be a party pooper; a sorrow shared is a sorrow halved, a joy shared is joy doubled!”
Congratulations on your marriage, Mack and Joyce! May it be every bit as beautiful as your wedding!
