Promising to spend the rest of your life with your love must already have had Wei Yi and Zoe on cloud nine. Add a floating poolside platform and clouds of baby’s breath to the picture and it's easy to see why their smiles burned even brighter on their special day at Capella, captured by Chris of Lightedpixels Pixies. Plus, j’adore the bride’s modern take on tradition with her white cheongsam accentuated by designer Lai Chan’s signature jade buttons.
How did you meet and what was the proposal like?
“Wei, a senior Finance Manager and Zoe, a Marketing Director, met in early 2013 when Wei took up a new job, moving him from New York to Hong Kong. Our love for animals, Chinese American food, travelling, and cheesy TV sitcoms brought us together. After an elaborate plan that almost failed, Wei proposed in April 2015 at the top of Hong Kong at Victoria Peak Garden, in the middle of a cold and wet fog bank…not the picturesque star-lit night that he’d imagined. Regardless, she said yes.” ~ Wei Yi and Zoe
Please tell us more about your wedding!
“Our ceremony in Singapore happened a week after the one we held in Hong Kong. The wedding in Hong Kong was a huge event with nearly 2000 people in attendance and took huge amounts of coordination and months of planning to pull off. This was not the type of wedding we had imagined and when we decided to host a ceremony in Singapore for Wei’s friends and relatives that could not take part in Hong Kong; we were quite excited that we would be able to plan one that was small, intimate, and fun. Planning a wedding in Singapore from Hong Kong was not easy but we had great help from our friends and the sales coordinator at Capella Hotel.
We wanted as much fresh flowers as possible in order to mimic Singapore’s rich flora and fauna, with shades of white and pastels to complement the bridesmaids’ dresses. Since it was an outdoor ceremony, Zoe found a store in Hong Kong that sold hand fans along with personalised ribbons so that guests could keep cool in the morning sun. Each seat in the lunch banquet was decorated with a personalised seat cushion that was carried over by us (all 120 of them!)
Zoe’s cheongsam-inspired dress by Lai Chan was not what she originally planned to walk down the aisle in! She had another dress prepared in Hong Kong that she had arranged for her family to bring over for her. However due to a slight miscommunication, her wedding dress was left in Hong Kong. It was Eddie from Lai Chan to the rescue – helping her pick out, tailor, and fit in the dress in a matter of 3 days, all in time for the weekend wedding.
The wedding day went by without a hitch and the weather fully cooperated, giving us a warm and sunny morning and afternoon.” ~ Wei Yi and Zoe
What do you think makes a strong marriage?
“We’re definitely not qualified to be giving out tips yet but so far, we're married because we have our ups and downs, joys and sadness but still learn to laugh in the end.” ~ Wei Yi and Zoe
Congratulations on your marriage, Wei Yi and Zoe! May it be every bit as beautiful as your wedding!
