Rachel Wee – aka the daughter of Jean Yip and Mervin Wee, the couple behind beauty and wellness-focused Jean Yip Group – wed financial analyst Ken Chen in a glamorous, lavish wedding celebration earlier this year.
The wedding festivities, which were featured in British television series My Crazy Rich Asian Wedding, kicked off with a gatecrash, followed by a traditional Chinese tea ceremony and a church ceremony at St. Theresa’s Church.
To cap it all off, the newlyweds threw a dinner reception at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore. The ballroom was fully transformed into a “kingdom” under-the-sea, complete with brightly coloured corals and fishes as décor. The food served, too, was in keeping with the theme, while the wedding cake design also featured mermaid scales.
The dazzling bride-to-be, who reportedly had four outfit changes and wore a wedding gown with over 6,000 Swarovski crystals, made her entrance in an unconventional way: by emerging from a larger-than-life clam. Her father even dressed up as Neptune, god of the sea.

How did you meet and fall in love?
“We met through mutual friends and it was, as cliche as it sounds, attraction at first sight. I knew that Ken was The One after a couple of dates. Right from the first date, he was open and transparent with me, and I realised that we have the same goals and values in life.
This sounds stupid, but we often think of the same thing at the same time, almost as if we have telepathy! We attribute it to being born just two days apart in the same hospital. Though that isn’t the reason why I think he’s The One, it’s almost like God giving me a sign that Ken is my soul mate.” ~ Rachel
What do you love most about your partner?
“Ken is very calm and steady, whereas I’m the anxious one. He never fails to calm me down when I’m upset or angry. He’s great at managing my emotions! Ken is also the most reliable person I know – when he says he will do something, he will do it.” ~ Rachel
Any tips or wedding advice you have for other brides and grooms to-be?
“Just enjoy yourselves on the big day! It doesn’t matter if things don’t go according to plan. It’s your special day and you must try to enjoy the process.” ~ Rachel
Any tips or advice on what you think makes a strong marriage?
“Communication! Even if it leads to a fight, you must communicate your feelings no matter how small or stupid they sound.” ~ Rachel
Congratulations on your marriage, Ken and Rachel! May it be as beautiful as your wedding!
