Railway Romance: A Styled Shoot at Tanjong Pagar Railway Station

01p

Singapore's history is built on it being a locus for trade in Asia, and a need for a railway system to transport goods from the mainland to our proud and bustling ports arose as early as the 1860s. The construction of the magnificent Tanjong Pagar Railway Station was finally completed almost 100 years ago, in 1932 and opened by Sir Cecil Clementi, the then-Governer of Singapore.

The Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, with its lofty vaulted atrium, regal facades, and neo-classical and art-deco influences, was built to reflect its importance and prestige as the beginning and end of what was envisioned to be an extensive rail network snaking through Malaysia and Thailand, stretching from France to China and meeting the famous Trans-Siberian Railway.

Today’s series of bride and groom portraits styled by Beautiful Gatherings gives us a glimpse into this once-bustling hub, where railway travel was a glamourous luxury. In these expressive stills captured by AndroidsinBoots, we're taken back in time to imagine a bride and groom dressed to the nines, and we can easily imagine them descending the upper stories of the Railway Station, which used to contain a hotel for weary travellers, to greet their jubilant guests.

A word from Bryan of Beautiful Gatherings…
“Tanjong Pagar Railway Station reflects a certain kind of lost grandeur. Left on its own, rust has crept in, and vines and cobwebs adorn the whitewashed building. Yet, there is no denying the old-world charm it exudes. Stepping into its hallowed halls is like getting a secret glimpse into its once grand past. A place defined by the passage of time, we found it the perfect backdrop to narrate the story of this railway romance.”
