Ricky and Debbie braved the chill to have a romantic engagement shoot in Tokyo and Nikk?, Japan. The rich sienna and golden hues of the leaves provided the perfect canvas on which to paint these captivating snaps captured on film by Wie and Gaillard of Is-Amare Wedding Photography.
Tell us about your love story.
“My best friend introduced me to her husband’s best friend after I broke up with my ex-boyfriend, and we immediately clicked. He asked me to marry him after two and a half years in October 2013, and we got married in January this year.” ~ Debbie
What was the inspiration behind your engagement shoot?
“Our event organiser Project Art Plus recommended that we take a look at the work of Gaillard Mathieu (Wie’s partner); we both loved that his photographs looked so natural. We went to Japan for the shoot, and I was very lucky to have had Gaillard there with us to tell me what to do – I’m definitely not the type of girl who likes taking selfies!” ~ Debbie
Do you have any interesting stories or anecdotes to share with us from the shoot?
“Because of the language barrier in Japan, we got lost a lot, and had to drag our suitcases everywhere. We barely had any sleep and I had to do my own hair and makeup; to top it all off, it was winter at the time so I had to bear the cold when we took the shots of me in the gowns.
The city shots were taken in Ginza, and there’s a funny story behind the pictures of me standing in the middle of the road: I had to run at every green light just to take those photos! It was hilarious.
Another session I will never forget was the one taken outside Tokyo; Wie and Gaillard – being the spontaneous photographers they are – suggested that we make our way to a waterfall nearby, so we stopped the car to take a few pictures. It was snowing and freezing but their high spirits motivated us to go on. They were both incredibly kind and helpful throughout the shoot and I couldn’t be more grateful for them.
In the end, all of our efforts paid off. I am so happy with the results; the photos are absolutely timeless and stunning, and I know I will keep them for ages.” ~ Debbie
Thanks for sharing your lovely engagement photos with us, Ricky and Debbie! Congratulations on your marriage!
