Their stylish destination pre-wedding shoot took them on an adventure around San Francisco, and today we are delighted to be sharing Anthony and Charlene’s grand soiree at Marina Bay Sands planned by Inside The Knot. Steve’s Décor transformed the entire ballroom into a sumptuous crystal, feather and flower-adorned forest that complemented the bride in her intricately embellished couture gowns by Hian Tjen, as seen in these snaps by Ivan of Axioo.
How did you meet?
“We were schoolmates in primary school but not friends, in fact we disliked each other! Thanks to fate, we reconnected on IRC and met up when Anthony was back in Singapore during a summer break while he was studying in San Francisco. The rest is history. The first four years of our relationship were long-distance and it was really difficult. But we never gave up no matter how tough it got.” ~ Charlene
What was the proposal like?
“Anthony went down on one knee and proposed to me at the Golden Gate Bridge during a vacation in San Francisco.” ~ Charlene
What was your theme and colour palette?
“The theme was ‘Royalé Forest’ and our colours were purple & silver.” ~ Charlene
How did you decorate your venue?
“Inside The Knot did simple decorations for our holy matrimony at Church of The Holy Cross, with white Phalaenopsis orchids for our pews, and a white rose petal carpet for the aisle.
For our dinner reception at MBS, we flew Steve Décor from Indonesia to transform our dreams into reality. The man behind Steve Décor, Steve himself, conceptualized our decor with us and executed it perfectly. He and his team are absolutely a dream to work with, and we’re so grateful to him.
When Anthony and I walked into the ballroom during our march-in, the décor simply took our breaths away. We’ll never forget that moment.” ~ Charlene
What are some of your favourite memories from the day?
“When I was walked down the aisle with my father during the holy matrimony. I didn’t expect to cry but tears flowed down uncontrollably, which totally caused a domino effect on the handsome groom and my dad, who were in puddles of tears too.
Another special memory for me was having my wedding dress designer, Hian Tjen, fly in from Jakarta despite his busy schedule, to put the final touches on my gown and sew me in my dress on the morning of the wedding.
Also, the afterparty we had immediately after the reception was just what we needed to let loose and celebrate with our closest friends. With all the alcohol going around, Anthony and I were left barely standing at the end of the night *laughs*.” ~ Charlene
Do you have any tips and wedding advice for other brides and grooms-to-be?
“Communicate well with each other on expectations before planning commences. Start planning ahead to minimise stress as much as possible. Include parents on both sides in the decision-making so they feel respected, knowing that their input and opinions are valued. Do thorough research before choosing a vendor. Ask as many questions as possible before signing on the dotted line.
Lastly, Anthony’s advice to all grooms: Bear with the Bridezilla!” ~ Anthony and Charlene
What do you think makes a strong marriage?
“We are newlyweds still and have so much ahead of us to experience. What we can say is we believe a loving relationship should have honesty, respect, trust, good communication, and of course love.
Adding to the above is patience and sincerity, which we feel will make a happy relationship and strong marriage. Treat your spouse exactly the way you want to be treated and loved. Marriage is about giving oneself up selflessly and making the conscious choice to love each other every day for the rest of your lives.” ~ Anthony and Charlene
