Couples looking to celebrate their nuptials al fresco style – without the hassle of worrying about coming up with a plan B – should look to Adam and Yee Ling’s terrace reception for inspiration. The couple’s big day involved a tea ceremony at The Fullerton Hotel, followed by the wedding solemnisation at Armenian Church, and the dinner reception at Lewin Terrace, all shot by NDrew Photography. Eunice of Heaven In A Wild Flower worked with a colour palette of dusty blue and peach to maximum effect: pastel blooms and greenery lined every table at the Lewin Terrace, while luxe mirror and acrylic placemats along with the venue’s expansive space and plush seating completed the reception’s classic garden wedding vibe.
How did you meet?
“We met twelve years ago while we were in college in Perth, Australia. We were classmates but we never really spoke to one another because Adam would always be seated in front of the class, while I preferred to sit at the back. We were only properly introduced to each other by a mutual friend after I had left the college.” ~ Yee Ling
How did he propose?
“We went back to Perth to visit Adam’s family in 2014. He proposed at Cottesloe Beach, which was where he first asked me out years ago.” ~ Yee Ling
What was the theme of your wedding?
“We played with a colour palette of dusty blue and peach. It was an unusual combination, but we wanted to do something a little bit different. We also went for a more classic but playful/fun theme.” ~ Yee Ling
How did you decorate your venues?
“Eunice from Heaven In A Wild Flower did all the decorations for us, from our solemnisation at Armenian Church to the dinner reception at Lewin Terrace.” ~ Yee Ling
What sort of wedding favors did you opt for, and why?
“We gave out jars of homemade jams (strawberry and marmalade) prepared by Lewin Terrace. The majority of our guests flew in from overseas and we wanted to give them something that was practical and easily taken back home.” ~ Yee Ling
Do you have any other stories you’d like to share with us?
“Adam did the noble thing of asking my dad for my hand in marriage when we were back in Malaysia, supposedly in secret. The night that he asked was also the night of my cousin’s wedding, and everyone came around to congratulate me on our ‘engagement’. Guess who accidentally let the cat out of the bag?” ~ Yee Ling
Any tips or wedding advice for other brides and grooms to-be?
“If budget permits, the most important thing is to hire a wedding planner, as he/she is someone who will be there for you during the day, through mishaps big and small. Pinterest is a great platform to get inspiration from, however it is important to still stay true to yourself instead of merely copying. Learn to trust in your wedding vendors; letting them run with their creativity will give you the best results. Last but not least, remember to bask in every moment during the big day, as this is something that only happens once in a lifetime.
From a cost saving perspective, we took the flowers that decorated the church and reused them all at the dinner reception. This helped us save quite a fair bit on the decorations. Again, our wedding planner helped us a lot in terms of budgeting and making sure we were not going off track financially.” ~ Yee Ling
What do you think makes a strong marriage?
“We would say that open communication, patience and understanding have been vital to our 9-year relationship.” ~ Yee Ling
Congratulations on your marriage, Adam and Yee Ling! May it be every bit as beautiful as your wedding!
