“The biggest lesson that I learnt was never to underestimate the groom's participation in wedding planning. Kaichin was present in almost 95% of all the meetings and drove us to the places that we needed to go. A lot of the decisions that I hesitated over were very easily decided by him. Not because they were simple decisions, but because deep down I think he knows me better than I give him credit for.” ~ Evelyn
Surrounded by blues and silvers at their CHIJMES ceremony, and blues and golds at their Shangri-La Hotel ballroom reception, Kaichin and Evelyn’s wedding day planned by Chere Weddings & Events and captured by Yu Hsin of Tinydot Photography was a celebration not only of the union of the couple, but also of the friendships they’ve forged that have sculpted the people they’ve become.
What was the theme of your wedding?
“Throughout the whole wedding planning process, our focus was to celebrate the relationship that we have individually with our guests. We are thankful for how each of them has made us the people that we are, which led us to our union together. We also wanted our wedding to have a subtle elegance to it.
The colour theme of our church wedding was blue and silver and we wanted to focus on the holiness of the Church, especially since we held our ceremony at CHIJMES. For our dinner, we wanted it to be a fun party and we decided to change the wedding theme to blue and gold. With Chere’s help, I enjoyed the process throughout and was able to spend more time preparing for our marriage.” ~ Evelyn
Do you have any tips or wedding advice for other brides and grooms-to-be?
“I recognised early on that I could not possibly plan a wedding alone. Together with Weiwei and her team from Chere, they helped me plan the entire wedding and pre-wedding shoot. During the planning stage, we started off by coming up with a theme and a colour concept. Together, we then decided on the different decorations and the proceedings that we wanted to pay tribute to. To be honest, I have never been very artistic and for that, I am thankful for Weiwei and her team for their help. They did everything beautifully. They helped source vendors for our wedding invites and they printed our table cards and did the majority of the decorations.” ~ Evelyn
What were you thankful for during the wedding?
“I am grateful for how our friends really came together to be a part of the wedding itself. Isaac, who owns AwwSnap Photography, doubled up as our groomsman and provided a personalised photo booth service for us. Das, who was our spectacular host for the night, is a close family friend whom we have known for years and has witnessed our union from the very beginning. My sister and a close family friend helped stage an incredible song remix that was performed on the day of our wedding which we practiced only 2-3 weeks before the wedding.” ~ Evelyn
What is the biggest lesson learnt?
“The biggest lesson that I learnt was never to underestimate the groom's participation in wedding planning. Kaichin was present in almost 95% of all the meetings and drove us to the places that we needed to go. A lot of the decisions that I hesitated over were very easily decided by him. Not because they were simple decisions, but because deep down I think he knows me better than I give him credit for. It was definitely not easy to plan a wedding. I am grateful for the support that my friends and family gave. There were countless WhatsApp conversations between my girlfriends and many late night messages between my wedding planners and all our vendors.” ~ Evelyn
What do you think makes a strong marriage?
“Love and respect always. And understanding that sometimes the thing that makes you upset is the thing that you fell for in the first place (his playfulness).
A tip that I received from a close friend: "Never laugh at your husband's choices, because you are one of them.” ~ Evelyn
