Love The Color Run? Then you'll surely be captivated by the playful couple we're featuring in today's post. Jessica was inspired by Holi or the Festival of Colours during the time she spent in India, and decided to recreate her own version of the colourfest with Samuel for their engagement session. We simply adore this dynamic duo's boundless energy - and check out those colours beautifully captured by Bobby Kiran Yeo.
How did you meet and what was the proposal like?
"We met rather uneventfully in class when we were 15. He was the opinionated footballer who had quite a bit of a brain, and I was the awkward kid who was just discovering contact lenses and braces (and also that high socks were not exactly cool back then). We stood out to each other then primarily because we were regular contenders for the worst Chinese marks (not for lack of effort), but we didn't start dating till we were 19.
Sam proposed at Mount Faber, at the same spot we had committed our relationship to God four years before. To get to that spot though, he designed a game that would take us to the various significant locations in our relationship. This involved making a scrapbook, which his mum testifies required blood, sweat and tears - the only equivalent being the effort he put in to study for his Chinese exams! That was really quite something." ~ Jessica
What was the inspiration behind your shoot?
"I spent 3 months in north India for an internship with an NGO, and while there I learnt about the Festival of Colours celebrated annually in March. I saw the mountains of brightly coloured powder heaped along the dirt streets and in front of temples, and was disappointed to find that people were making their purchases in a calm manner. Imagining that people made colourful explosions by grabbing fistfuls of these cheerful colours and tossing them into the air or at each other made me inexplicably happy and I very much wanted in on the action! So, two years later, Sam and I decided we would do just that at our pre-wedding shoot and here we are now!" ~ Jessica
Do you have any interesting moments or stories to share from the day of the shoot? The holi powder shots are incredible!
"We had five sweet friends with us on the day of the shoot; many of whom sacrificed their own clothes to colour ours. Everyone's snot was quite colourful that evening. We also found out that holi powder tastes dull and is, as a rule, inedible." ~ Jessica
Congratulations on your engagement, Samuel and Jessica, and thank you for sharing your lovely photos with us!
