When we first encountered the images from Trevor and Kamini’s wedding, we were struck by their beautiful serenity. This lovely couple's wedding was a perfect blend of culture, religion and modernity which we find just breathtaking!
Trevor and Kamini met at a dance school where they took salsa classes together. They were friends for a year before Trevor was able to sum up the courage to ask Kamini out. Over the course of their relationship, they used to write each other little notes and leave them hidden in places like under a pillow or in a jacket pocket.
“We had just bought our house and were settling in during the afternoon. I was really nervous the entire week leading up to settlement, and in the morning, I found a note from Trevor that detailed how excited he was about the new house, and listed corny reasons why he loved me, and at the bottom of the note, he had those magic words “WILL YOU MARRY ME?” I initially thought he was joking, because he always plays pranks on me. But I believed him when he pulled out the ring!” ~ Kamini
Trevor and Kamini had just 6 months to plan two weddings, one in Melbourne and another in Singapore.
“I didn’t really have a theme, we just wanted to make sure our wedding involved our friends, and it was going to be fun. For our Singapore wedding, I pretty much followed in my sister-in-laws’ footsteps, and booked the vendors she used 2 years earlier, as they were very impressive. My family helped me plan that wedding. The SICC ticked the boxes for me. I didn’t want to have it at a hotel, and the SICC was different because of the location but yet large enough. It felt like you were out of Singapore, being surrounded by lush greenery and the golf course. The food was absolutely amazing!” ~ Kamini
Trevor and Kamini’s Buddhist ceremony took place at a temple in which Kamini’s grandmother was one of the founding members. 13 monks were present for the blessing ceremony which started under a Bodhi tree. After the blessing ceremony, the couple commenced with the dane where they served monks a meal.
“The most memorable part of the day was the cool breeze that blew right through the guests at the blessing ceremony. The morning was very still and hot, and through the ceremony it was very calm. However, right at the very end of the ceremony when the monk was chanting the very last sentence, this strong, cool breeze blew thorough the tree, leaves fell everywhere, and it almost felt spiritual, as though our dear departed ones where there with us, including my grandmother and Trevor’s father.” ~ Kamini
Trevor and Kamini’s advice to couples?
“Start planning early and book the “big” things first. Take things one step at a time. Stick to a budget, and your style/personality. Try not to be swayed by everyone else’s opinions!”
Congratulations Trevor and Kamini!
