Two Peas in a Pod: Sonya Davison’s Twin Gender Reveal

01p

There is nothing we love more than hearing about TWS brides becoming mamas so when we learned that Sonya (whose beautiful beach solemnisation and Bali nuptials continue to inspire) was expecting twins, we knew it was the perfect time to celebrate our joy for her by putting together our first-ever “Beyond Wedding” shoot. Will she have boys, girls or one of each? You’ll have to read on for the genders of her precious peas revealed in the sweetest possible way with help from Chen Sands, Fiona Treadwell, Charmaine Tok, The Prelude Bridal, Winifred Kristé Cake, KCottageStudio, Bloomsbury Bakers and Little Red Balloon.

A word from beautiful mama-to-be Sonya…
"I absolutely love being pregnant. Before I became pregnant, I heard so many scary birthing stories and all about the difficulties and discomforts – I honestly was so scared and nervous. Although I definitely experienced the usual discomforts and then some (with having twins – oh man the back aches!), it is all so minor in comparison to the joy and excitement I feel anticipating the arrival of my little ones. I've had so much fun seeing my husband treat me extra extra special, buying cute tiny baby clothes, decorating the nursery, getting VIP treatment everywhere I go including cutting queues and getting a table at fully booked restaurants. It's awesome, I would definitely go through it all over again (twin pregnancy and all!)"

A word from Chen Sands Photography…
“This shoot was definitely a dream come true! Absolutely adore what Fiona put together. Sonya has such an innate sense of style and it was great to watch the team work their magic to create a shoot that was inspirational to others but also importantly unique and special to her, that she could cherish. Maternity shoots are one of my favourite portrait sessions to do, in a funny way it's like boudoir, I get to capture the essence of a wonderful woman, at a time where she wants to cherish how amazing her shape is - every curve! That's probably why I love doing them!

And my extra advice – although I'm not lucky enough yet to be a mum – I see through family and friends that pregnancy can be a tumultuous time, so for those considering a photo session, it doesn't need to be a stressful addition to your to-do list! Have it done at your own home, turn it into a day to pamper yourself or couple it with a pre-baby shower activity with your best girls. With all the things you as a mum-to-be must prepare, let there be a time where you can relax and treat yourself!”

A word from Fiona Treadwell…
“If there are any milestones in life that one should celebrate, it's definitely being a mother. And if you would hire a photographer and stylist for your wedding, why wouldn't you do that for your maternity shoot? It’s the next most memorable, sacred and personal event after being married. I was excited to style Sonya's shoot; after researching her on Instagram and going through her weddings on The Wedding Scoop, I concluded that she is definitely a glam girl.

Concocting a clean palette of whites, mercury, silvers and soft blue to go with her style and her gorgeous abode, I chose mostly white flowers and blue delphiniums and placed them in mercury silverware. And instead of a bouquet of flowers, I handmade a pregnancy belt made with fresh flowers for her belly. The most important factor for a pregnancy shoot is definitely comfort for the mum-to-be, and we know there is no place as comfortable as home. Balloons are the best accents and in this case, getting Little Red Balloon on board was a joy. They immediately understood the idea and sent me more balloons than I’d ever seen.

Chen is also the reason why I love this shoot – getting the right angles and being a perfectionist was exactly what I needed. Getting Sonya fitted into the gowns was easy peasy, I have never seen anyone look this good carrying a baby, much less two. Thanks to The Prelude Bridal for making the fittings so smooth. Charmaine's makeup skills enhanced Sonya's pregnancy glow, and her hair was definitely more of our focus. Lastly, what's a home pregnancy styled shoot without a dessert table? Thanks to Bloomsbury for their delectable mini dessert bar and Winifred Kristé Cake for the lovely cake with sugar flowers to complement the mood. Also not forgetting the awesome cake toppers from KCottageStudio!”
