Loved our feature on bride-to-be Charlene's magical light-up gown on the streets of Paris? Today, we bring you more fairytale goodness in the form of Victor and Charlene’s lavish wedding celebrations in Malaysia.
Held at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur and captured by Keda.Z Photography and Filming Art Cinematography, the festivities kicked off with a traditional Chinese wedding ceremony decked in red and gold hues. This was followed by a luxurious ballroom reception, featuring a stunning floral-covered backdrop in pretty pastel shades, sparkly chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, as well as the bride’s gorgeous light-up Cinderella gown, which won the hearts of all their guests!
How did you meet each other?
“We met at one of our best friend’s wedding. We were friends for a few months until Victor took me to a restaurant for dinner one day. As I walked in, I noticed it was empty. Soon after we finished our dinner, he went down on one knee and asked me to be his girlfriend, and the rest is history as they say. He actually booked the entire restaurant for this proposal.” ~ Charlene
How did Victor propose?
“After all the effort he had spent to propose to me just to be his girlfriend, I should’ve known that when the time came for the big proposal, he would definitely pull out all the stops, and he did!
Victor planned the marriage proposal with help from my friends. It all started with a birthday celebration for my friend at one of the restaurants in JW Marriott. While we were having dinner, a magician appeared and started to do some magic tricks. I thought the hotel was doing an event to entertain guests, so I didn’t suspect anything. Soon after there were two singers who started to sing, following by a bunch of dancers who started to perform in front of us. From then on, I sensed something amiss. I kept asking my friends what was happening and they insisted that they didn’t know anything while they kept smiling.
At this point, Victor appeared holding a bouquet of flowers and walked towards me. He went down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. As it turned out, he had booked the entire restaurant. The magician, singers, dancers, photographers and videographer were actually hired by him. He invited all our friends and family to witness the proposal. After the proposal, everyone came forward and congratulated us. I was beyond shocked with this surprise proposal, and so grateful to have all these amazing people in my life.” ~ Charlene
What was your wedding’s theme/style/colour palette?
“Our dream wedding started out with a vibrant palette of red and gold that symbolized fortune and joy. But when it came to the ballroom banquet dinner, we went with a soft colour palette of white, hues of blush pink and rose gold.” ~ Victor and Charlene
How did you decorate your venues?
“For the morning ceremony, we went for a simple traditional red and gold set-up by Kiki and team from MOEP official. We engaged Lily and team from Wishing Tree for the ballroom banquet. I’ve always dreamt that my wedding would be surrounded by a garden of flowers, and they brought this vision to life. We were completely blown away by the stunning white and blush pink flower wall backdrop, the enchanting tree arches along the walkway, and lush, elaborate flowers that cascaded down the walkway! I felt like our fairy tale dream had come true.” ~ Charlene
Did you undertake any DIY projects?
“I designed the wedding invitation cards and wax-sealed each wedding invite.” ~ Charlene
What sort of wedding favours did you opt for, and why?
“We opted for scented candles by Candle Pit Stop as wedding favours. It was the best way to remind our guests of the enchanting ambience at our wedding.” ~ Victor and Charlene
Any special stories relating to your wedding?
“We only had about 50 of our closest friends and family in attendance to witness our union of love at our ROM where we exchanged rings and said our vows in a romantic floral ambience. It was indeed the most special part of the day.
Another special moment for us was when we marched in with my last gown, the Cinderella gown. It was lit up the moment we stepped into the ballroom. Victor held my hand and I twirled my gown just to show the illuminating effect of my fibre optic gown. This scene created such a “wow” factor and the guests loved it.” ~ Charlene
Any tips or wedding advice you have for other brides and grooms to-be?
“If the budget allows for it, find a very reliable and well-organised wedding planning company. They can really help you out with the small details and make you feel more relaxed. Check and review your vendor’s portfolio and past projects before booking them so you know what to expect.” ~ Victor and Charlene
Any tips or advice on what you think makes a strong marriage?
“Always treat each other respectfully as equals. Never speak poorly of each other socially. Open up when communicating and speak about what you need. And listen to your partner’s needs.” ~ Victor and Charlene
