This wedding was the cat’s whiskers! Wei Jie and Katheryn wanted to share their love for furry felines with guests, and their unique wedding venue - Cat Café Neko no Niwa did just that with its clowder of rescued cats playing the part of purrfect hosts as seen in these snaps by AndroidsinBoots.
How did you meet?
“We met at the age of 13 in secondary school but we didn’t like each other then. Somehow fate brought us together when we were 19, after I had come back from an internship in Hong Kong” ~ Katheryn
What was the proposal like?
“He came by my home at the stroke of midnight on my birthday last year, he was all suited up and carried a suitcase and a small stalk of dried baby’s breath. Since I never expected him to come by, I had a sheet mask on when I opened the door. I was both shocked and touched by everything that happened then and there. He even had to ask me if I’d like to remove my mask so that he could kiss me. *laughs* After I said ‘yes’, he told me that he had also planned a surprise birthday trip to Ho Chi Minh hence the suitcase.
I have to say it was quite an epic proposal. Girls, please don’t do sheet masks at the stroke of midnight on your birthdays! You never know if your boyfriend will surprise you with a proposal on this special day.” ~ Katheryn
What was your theme and colour palette?
“After the proposal, we discussed for a long time if we’d like to have a banquet with a solemnisation or just a solemnisation. We agreed that the venue should hold some meaning for us. We were looking for a cosy, intimate setting that we both like. Since we both love cats and wanted our friends to understand cats more, we decided to have it at the Cat Café Neko no Niwa.
We decided on a very simple palette of 4 colours – a pastel combination of white, baby blue, pink and soft purple.” ~ Katheryn
How did you decorate your venues? Did you undertake any DIY projects?
“We did everything ourselves! We cut and folded a lot of geometric shapes in our colour palette and strung them up to make the backdrop that was hung at the windows.
For the photo gallery wall at the side of the café, we bought frames and printed the photos ourselves. I also designed and sewed the cross-stitch portrait based on the outfits we wore that day.
Some other things we made were the dinosaur ring holders and our wedding vow books.” ~ Katheryn
What sort of wedding favors did you opt for, and why?
“We actually made paper lollipops that were supposed to be given out to our guests. But the cats were attempting to nibble on them, so we kept them and forgot to give them out!” ~ Katheryn
Do you have any other stories you’d like to share with us?
“A lot of our guests are not cat lovers so we are very thankful that they attended the solemnisation. We are glad that they now have a better understanding and have grown to like cats more after our wedding.” ~ Katheryn
Do you have any tips and wedding advice for other brides and grooms-to-be?
“Plan early! We did our DIYs at the last minute so we were kept very busy every weekend.” ~ Katheryn
What do you think makes a strong marriage?
“Never let an argument continue overnight. Always talk it through because it takes a lot of effort from both of you to make a marriage work.” ~ Katheryn
Congratulations on your marriage, Wei Jie and Katheryn! May it be every bit as beautiful as your wedding!
