Wei Kiat and Hanzhi’s Wedding at Hotel Fort Canning With A Hand-Stitched Backdrop

Much like their pre-wedding photo shoot with their families, bride Hanzhi of The Joy Troopers and groom Wei Kiat’s wedding captured by friend Jun Wu at Hotel Fort Canning was more than just a celebration of their love, but one that paid tribute to kinships and friendships.

What was your theme and colour palette?
“The theme was consistent with our pre-wedding photo shoot where we wanted a focus on our loved ones. We created a photo display corner with our parents' dating and wedding photos, and memories of our childhood friends and loved ones that have watched and grown up with us. We wanted our wedding to be about more than just the 2 of us but also a celebration of great friendships, kinships and gratefulness.

​Our colour palette had whites and greens​, neutral tones and a touch of red that worked well with our wedding venue and didn’t take too much attention away from our main theme. We had our wedding at the Grand Marquee, Hotel Fort Canning, and solemnisation at the front garden porch. It was casual and cosy.” ~ Hanzhi

How did you decorate your venues? Did you undertake any DIY projects?
“Being part of The Joy Troopers, I designed and handmade most of the decorations with the help of my bridesmaids. The wedding banner "执子之手,与子偕老", is an old Chinese saying that translates to "hand in hand, let's grow old together". It was calligraphed by typing.jpg from Hong Kong, and hand-sewn by me. The characters were traced and cut out, then hand-stitched onto the backdrop.

The bride and groom chairs each had a little banner embroidered with our family names, "" and "", signifying the union of the 2 families. They were adorned with leaf garlands, similar to the ones which lined our aisle.” ~ Hanzhi

What sort of wedding favours did you opt for, and why?​
“We wanted our favours to be healthy snacks for our guests to munch on as they enjoyed themselves making small talk and interacting with one another. Hence, we decided to support Eatobe. They produce really tasty freeze-dried fruit chips and are a young local company that is constantly searching for ways to produce healthy and ‘clean’ food.” ~ Hanzhi
