It was a romantic movie come to life when childhood friends William and Carissa reconnected overseas and became college sweethearts. Surrounded by friends and family, they wed at The Danna Langkawi in a heartfelt, sun-drenched ceremony planned by Casa Amore Wedding Studio and captured by WeFreeze Photography. For dinner, lush floral installations turned the stately reception room into an indoor garden, which was lit equally by strands of fairy lights and the beaming smiles of all in attendance.
"Communication is not merely about how we say things, but more importantly, how we listen. No amount of words can comfort one's heart more than sincere silence with the intention to understand." - William and Carissa
How did you meet?
"We've known each other since childhood, but our relationship blossomed into romance only later in our college years as we both pursued our studies in Australia." - William and Carissa
How did William propose?
"William proposed on the day we celebrated our fourth anniversary. I had mentioned to him that I preferred a private and romantic proposal, and that was just what he did! William took me to a quiet, romantic place where he asked for his anniversary gift from me first. I was quite taken aback but went ahead with it anyway. I presented him with a video clip that I created of our four years together. When it was his turn to present his gift, he told me to turn around and face the wall while he prepared his gift. When he finally asked me to turn around to him, he was on his knees with a ring box in his hand! He told me how he wanted to live the rest of his life with me, and I said yes!" - Carissa
What was your theme/style/color palette?
"For the morning ceremony, we opted for a bright, simple, yet classical setting with gold and burgundy finishes. We had classical music playing in the background to set a cheery and elegant tone. For our reception, we wanted the atmosphere to be more warm and cozy. We kept the gold and burgundy theme but added more lush greens and fairy lights to create a romantic indoor garden setting." - William and Carissa
What sort of wedding favors did you opt for, and why?
"We wanted our wedding favors to have a personal touch. We gave our guests our favourite hand lotion from L'Occitane with a personal hand-written letter. The letters were placed in an envelope and sealed with a custom-made monogram seal with our initials." - William and Carissa
Any tips or wedding advice for other couples?
"We think it is important to pick a wedding planner that you can trust and who truly cares for you and your wedding. We were blessed to have engaged Casa Amore Wedding Studios for our wedding. They often gave us ideas on how to save money and were very honest and transparent with the pricing of all the different vendors. Of course, we did our own share of research as well! However, knowing that we could rely on our wedding planners gave us peace of mind and took away a lot of unnecessary stress leading up to our wedding." - William and Carissa
Any tips or advice on what makes a strong marriage?
"We believe that strong communication is the key to a fulfilling and lasting marriage. Interestingly though, we have come to learn that communication is not merely about how we say things, but more importantly, how we listen. No amount of words can comfort one's heart more than a sincere silence with the intention to understand. Even till today, we are still learning how to hold our tongues and seek to understand first before seeking to be understood. With that mentality, we resolve conflicts a lot faster, and instead of pointing fingers and defending, we're able to actually focus on loving one another. It is easier said than done but we believe that our faith in God, who gives us strength to love, will enable us to continue to work hard to build our marriage." - William and Carissa
Congratulations on your marriage, William and Carissa! May it be every bit as beautiful as your wedding!
