When a felt and fresh flower artist weds, you can bet that there will be plenty of handcrafted love weaved into her big day. Bride Haylee of Adorninglory celebrated her wedding, shot by Alone Together, at Hotel Fort Canning’s Grand Marquee. She added whimsical touches to the garden-themed setting with a flower bar for guests and her signature felt flowers for the bridal party’s accessories.
Here's a peek at Haylee’s unique engagement ring and wedding band…
How did you meet?
“We met through a common friend in church who introduced us as Zech was looking for a care group to join.” ~ Haylee
What was the proposal like?
“We both planned to have a picnic at our usual spot at Upper Seletar Reservoir on 7th May 2015. It was also the place where Zech asked me to be his girlfriend, so that place holds a special place in our hearts. Zech had borrowed a friend's car so that we could drive there that day. I had no clue that he was going to propose even though he kept finding excuses to go to the toilet during our picnic. The final time he went to the toilet was for quite a while. He then walked over with a bouquet and fairy lights around it. At first I thought he was just making a sweet gesture but it hit me that he meant to propose when I saw our friend with a camera shooting the whole thing!
I instantly started tearing and even more so when he gave a speech as he proposed! After which Zech drove us to a hotel where he had planned an engagement party with my closest group of friends there waiting for us.” ~ Haylee
What was your theme and colour palette?
"We went with a soft colour palette of blues, creams, greys and peach/yellow hues. The style is pretty much Adorninglory, which is my felt and floral business. I had a lot of felt flowers (which I handmade) incorporated in my decor. As for the Grand Marquee, I kept it rather simple with a rustic garden/forest theme with a lot of leaves and foliage which I left in the good hands of Sing See Soon, our appointed venue flower vendor.” ~ Haylee
How did you decorate your venues? Did you undertake any DIY projects?
"I undertook most of the decor elements myself from the felt flowers for the photo booth backdrop to my rustic moss ring pillow.
The groomsmen's felt boutonnières and bridesmaids' felt hair combs were also handmade by me. My bridal bouquet was made out of 17 types of flowers which I put together (along with other floral items) the day before my wedding. I also had a friend who helped with the car decor and solemnisation table piece.
We were extremely blessed to have a group of friends help us put our vision together on the wedding day itself.” ~ Haylee
Do you have any other stories you’d like to share with us?
“My engagement ring was customised by Jon of Saxifrage. Zech wanted a ring that could become a pendant so that I could wear it as a necklace whenever I craft. So Jon really made it happen and I even wore it as a necklace with my 2nd outfit on my wedding day. My wedding band was also by Jon who took time to look for champagne diamonds for my wedding band!
I wanted to bring my joy and passion of floral crafting to my guests at my wedding, and also something fun for them to take part in. So we set up a Flower Bar where our guests could try their hand at putting together petite bouquets! It was so well received that the flowers ran out in just a matter of minutes!
We wanted a wedding that was at a slightly casual setting so we chose The Grand Marquee at Hotel Fort Canning and did a lunch. We couldn't be more happy with our venue choice, and the pictures we took at Fort Canning Park was just very much our style as well!” ~ Haylee
Any tips or wedding advice for other brides and grooms to-be?
“Come together and decide on a rough budget of how much you are willing to spend on things and have a common vision for the wedding. Plan within your means as the wedding day is just a day, but your marriage lasts a lifetime! Also be flexible with your ideas as they will change as you plan. To be honest, what matters most on the wedding day is not the decor nor the food, but that the two of you turn up and get married!” ~ Haylee
What do you think makes a strong marriage?
“Always remain teachable – it’s okay to be in the wrong and be the first to apologise, you don't have to always be right since there's no competition in a marriage. Marriage is teamwork!” ~ Haylee
Congratulations on your marriage, Zech and Haylee! May it be every bit as beautiful as your wedding!
