After three years of dating, Zhuo and Ashley tied the knot in a rustic wedding ceremony and dinner reception at Tanarimba Janda Baik, a secluded development nestled in lush tropical rainforest about 45 minutes from Kuala Lumpur.
Captured by Ndrew Photography and Ken Chan Production and planned and styled by Moments, the couple exchanged their vows in a simple and heartfelt outdoor solemnisation, which was decorated with white and pale pink blooms and lots of greenery. The dinner reception, meanwhile, was held indoors in a quaint lodge, and was where the pair enjoyed their first dance together as husband and wife before their closest family and friends.
How did you meet each other?
“Zhuo and I were both university students at the University of Otago and met at a dental school event. As Zhuo was graduating that year, we spent nearly two years of our three-year relationship long distance. Needless to say, the distance and time spent apart was well worth the wait.” ~ Ashley
How did Zhuo propose?
“The proposal was planned very much in advance as Ashley was visiting her family in Sydney. While there, Ashley and her mum had a “spontaneous” shopping trip and travelled to Melbourne. Little did she know that I had planned to fly over and surprise her as well. My parents flew in from Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne for the surprise too!
With the help of our very closest friends, I was able to surprise Ashley with a proposal at the botanical gardens. The proposal was special to the both of us, as both our parents as well as our closest friends were present at the moment she said “I do”. We then had a lovely engagement dinner to celebrate that special day.” ~ Zhuo
What was your theme/style/colour palette?
“Our theme was rustic, with white, green and pink being our colours of choice.” ~ Zhuo and Ashley
How did you decorate your venues? Did you undertake any DIY projects?
“It was a destination wedding for us so we couldn’t engage in the decoration process. However, we were blessed to have an amazing wedding planner and décor team who made our dream wedding come true.” ~ Zhuo and Ashley
What sort of wedding favours did you opt for and why?
“We had honey jars and dippers as our wedding favours. Honey is very famous in New Zealand where we both live at the moment, and we wanted our guests to have something that reminded us of home.” ~ Zhuo and Ashley
Any tips or wedding advice you have for other brides- and grooms-to-be?
“Have a wedding planner! As we both live in New Zealand while the wedding was held in Malaysia, having Tricia and her team helping us with a lot of wedding-related matters really took the stress and load off our shoulders.
Plan ahead of time, you can never be too early when it comes to planning a wedding.” ~ Zhuo and Ashley
Any tips or advice you have on what makes a strong marriage?
“Communication is key. Always listen to one another and don’t forget to tell your wife that she is beautiful and you love her every day.” ~ Zhuo
Congratulations on your marriage, Zhuo and Ashley! May it be every bit as beautiful as your wedding!
